Maria-Vittoria "Giugi" Carminati is Managing Attorney for the NDH Law Firm, a civil and human rights law firm. Giugi dedicates her practice to gender and race social justice, ranging from representing victims of excessive use of force by law enforcement, prisoner rights, domestic abuse & sexual assault. Dr. Carminati also leverages her experience at a Top 10 firm to handle complex commercial litigation.
She earned a JD from the University of Houston Law Center in 2008 and both an LLM in Space, Cyber & Telecommunications Law in 2013 and a JSD in Space Law, from the University of Nebraska Law School in 2018. She also received two B.A.s, summa cum lade, from the University of Houston in 2005. She speaks French, English, Italian, and Spanish fluently and understands Portuguese. She co-authored “The Laws of Spaceflight: A Guidebook for New Space Lawyers” and in 2019 published “What Does Risk Mean in this New ‘Risky Space Business’?”
Giugi was named Top 25 Faculty by LawLine in 2018, where she gives lectures on federal rules of civil procedure, trauma-informed representation, and space law.
Giugi is a director for the Colorado Community College System, Denver MAMAs, a member of the FAA Center of Excellence at CU Boulder, and on the Board of Directors of the Association of Spaceflight Professionals. She also served the ABA House of Delegates and the Colorado Women’s Bar Association Board of Directors. She is currently a member of the CWBA’s Public Policy Committee. She founded and co-led The 1891, the CWBA’s blog, and was Editor in Chief of the ABA’s Commercial & Business Litigation Newsletter. She also served as Board Member of the Texas Young Lawyers Association from 2008 to 2010. She is now a member of the CLC Immigration Task Force and the Ice at the Courthouse Subcommittee.
She is also a certified scuba diver and sailor. She jogs, skis, goes, camping, and fixes sheetrock in her spare time. She also loves cooking for four children who don't eat anything she makes.
